As a chef or aspiring chef, it is vital to have a really great set of knives as nothing is more frustrating than trying to work with dull and clunky knives. I wanted something that I could take with me to work that was compact, sleek and of course effective as well as one-piece. I prefer the one piece because they are more durable, you don’t have screws and extra pieces that you have to worry about.
I decided it was time to start looking for my new knife set and jumped on Amazon and did a search for the best cooking knives. I did look around for quite a bit and read plenty of reviews and found the set that was for me. I chose the Ross Henery Professional 9 piece set Japanese Style. They are a great value especially as a newbie or just needing to stick to a budget. They come in a very attractive canvas carrying case and each knife has a snug fitting sheath. It rolls up into a nice bundle so if you take them to work or maybe have a job interview, it is very convenient.
Their stainless steel form and balance make for a very enjoyable cooking session no matter what’s on the menu! There is a heft 10”inch Carving knife (with sheath) ideal for breaking down a big cut of meat, 8” Chef Knife is my favorite for general chopping and consider it my all purpose knife, 8” Filleting Knife perfect for a Salmon or Halibut steak, 8 Bread Knife is used a lot on our focaccia breads at work and definitely is a solid tool, 7” Cleaver is great for bones or pig feet, a 12” sharpening rod that definitely serves its purpose, 10” Meat Fork which is good for holding a piece of protein in place while you slice, 6” Boning Knife for deboning especially in small areas like the cheek and finally my wife’s favorite the 4” Paring Knife, she uses it for everything such as peeling ginger and chopping garlic (even if that’s NOT what its for).
Whether you are looking for a great starter set or for a Christmas gift, I do highly recommend this Ross Henery Professional Knife Set and at the price range its really a great deal. While they are way more deluxe and professional sets the price tag will keep rising but at some point, investing in quality tools is ultimately investing in yourself .
To Food and friends, Happy Holidays!
